Federation awards night

MORE than 80 people attended the third Wellington Sports Awards dinner on Saturday night.
The black-tie event was organised by the town’s Federation of Sports Clubs and held at the Cleve Hotel and Country Club.
Guest of honour was the MP for Taunton, Jeremy Browne, and the MC was Clinton Rogers of BBC Points West.
Eight awards for sporting achievement – both on and off the pitch – were presented during the evening.
Welcoming the guests, federation chairman Ken Bird said the organisation had three main aims – promotion of sport in Wellington, joint fund-raising by the 14 member clubs and youth development.
The past year had seen taster sessions in different sports organised for local youngsters.
The federation had also helped secure funding for a new sports hall at Court Fields Community School.
And it had also worked to see the old Beech Grove School Field turned into a rugby pitch, which would allow a second football pitch on the town’s playing field.

Web site changes

I've just made some upgrades to the web site, the software used to run it was getting a bit out of date, and could've started to cause problems.

So, we have a newer version running now, mostly working ok, but there are some things to fix still.

I think I've messed up the images some people had uploaded for the moment. I'm trying to sort that, but it will probably have to wait till next week now. In the process, I'm hoping to make adding images easier and better to add, as it's something that's never been terribly good.

If anyone gets any problems, please contact me at cricketadmin@sportinwellington.co.uk and I'll see what i can do to help.

Festival of Youth Sport

PLANS are taking shape for a major Festival of Youth Sport in Wellington next month.

The main event will see a range of tournaments, taster sessions and demonstrations at the town’s Playing Field on Sunday, August 27, from 12noon to 5pm.

But, in the run-up to the day, there will also be free coaching sessions for local youngsters in a variety of sports.

The festival is being organised by Wellington Federation of Sports Clubs, which held its latest meeting on Monday.

Member clubs heard that competitions already planned for August 27 included kwik cricket for under 11s and 13s, five-a-side football for under 12s and 14s, tag rugby for primary school children and a tennis tournament.
